As the art director of Volkskrant Banen and I sat waiting for the editor—who had forgotten the meeting and had popped out to the supermarket to do his grocery shopping—she told me she was a fan of Gary Larsen’s cartoons. As my other cartoons didn’t seem to be working for them, I gave the idea a try and, although I’m no Gary Larsen, the cartoons had a fair run.
