Published in the Lanzarote Holiday Magazine in 1994, Freddie the Camel was my first professional (i.e. paid) cartoon strip. How did I get the gig? I used to do caricatures in ‘Tony’s Bar’ and the magazine sales rep came in to sell advertising space.
It became popular with the English expat community and a friend, Webby, even had T-shirts and stickers printed up hoping it would become the next ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ type success.
Didn’t quite work out that way.
